Book Sale |
The Holiday Faire is but one part of UUCM's sale of donated books. The Book Swap, which is in the Fellowship Hall, is where donations can be left and books can also be taken from. As we never quite catch up on shelving everything, please feel free to help yourself. It works solely on the honor system. Better donations are sold online throughout the year and sales of Book Swap donations are approaching $5,000 over a four-year period! Excess books in good used condition are donated to the Manchester City Library and Families in Transition. For the Holiday Faire, donated books should be in new to gently used condition. Books of all types are accepted. Children's books are always needed. If you have something antiquarian that you think might be of value, we're happy to look it up online for you. If you choose to sell it, the options are always available to donate all proceeds to the church, some of the proceeds to the church, none of the proceeds to the church, or just to hang on to the book. Also needed for the Faire are CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, and cassette tapes. These need to be originals and not copies, please. Software has never done well. Please, no encyclopedia sets, Reader's Digest condensed books, water-damaged books, magazines (unless it's something unique) or vinyl records. A number of bookscouts need to be thanked: Members of the UUCM Book Club often donate the "read" of the month; Kent Gray, Ron and Donna Titus, Bob and Karen Lord, and the Doolittle family have donated time and treasures for many years; The Religious Education program often unearths a children's book that another congregation can use; Beth Ditkoff has donated the proceeds from the sale of her parents' books; Phoebe Stone and Ellen Belanger have also been generous. I'm always happy to try to answer your questions. As it stands now, I know three percent of everything I need to know about books. Each decade I learn another one percent.
